Tools4Media, callas software & TGLC announce bundle
Based on the recent IPA Ink Optimization Roundup Tools4Media, callas software and TGLC have created bundles of callas software’s proven pdfToolbox preflight engine and production tools with TGLC’s highly rated device link profile technology. This powerful suite provides users a compelling, feature rich production tool to optimize ink reduction, prepare and preflight PDF files which is unparalleled in the market today for a highly competitive price.
TGLC was one of 11 vendors, including Alwan, GMG, FineEye and CGS/ORIS, who participated in the IPA’s 2010 Ink Optimization Roundup. TGLC consistently rated at or near the top based on the IPA’s and Ryerson University’s impartial analysis. TGLC’s device link and ink optimization technology scored as well as or better than competing technologies from companies such as Agfa, GMG and perennial favorite Alwan *1. When calculating the dE2000 from the press run to the GRACoL reference data TGLC again scored *2 as well or better than all the other offerings in the round up. When evaluating TGLC’s overall visual performance to the reference sheet on a scale of 0 to 80 TGLC was in the top two.
Using TGLC’s PerfX Device Link Pro technology users can realize up to a 30% reduction in ink and toner utilization without affecting the visual integrity of the job. By leveraging callas software’s proven and trusted technology users can now reliably and consistently preflight, correct, optimize and standardized PDF’s all in one product at a price point below other solutions. Comparing the callas pdfToolbox Server & TGLC device links bundles to solutions from Alwan or GMG you can save money and still achieve a higher level of functionality. The callas software and TGLC bundle can be easily implemented into any prepress workflow.

Color conversions are one aspect where pdfToolbox excels compared to other PDF preflight and correction solutions on the market. callas software has a separate and efficient way of dealing with RGB to CMYK conversions. There is a "quick convert" mode which can be specifically used for converting Microsoft Office documents from RGB to CMYK. Using this mode pdfToolbox optimizes the conversion of all the document contents. Specifically pdfToolbox is able to identify RGB grays and blacks for vector objects and convert them to device gray, black (of CMYK) or separation black. Further callas pdfToolbox can identify RGB gray images and convert them in the same way. Using the quick convert mode pdfToolbox is able to identify the RGB equivalents of the primary colors and convert them to their proper values thus maintaining ink purity. Users, such as those with Xerox iGen digital presses or in newspaper workflows, can callas software’s pdfToolbox to apply UCR through the "quick convert" mode to achieve the desired separations. This kind of logic is not available in other PDF preparation tools and would require custom programming to accomplish. Most tools are completely incapable of identifying RGB gray images and moving them to the correct color space. Now combined with TGLC’s PerfX Device Link Pro users have an incredibly powerful combination at a fraction of the costs of other systems. Using TGLC Device Link or Device Link Pro user can create device link profiles for callas software’s pdfToolbox to intelligently apply. pdfToolbox’s powerful PDF technology allows users to selectively apply device link profiles to specific objects allowing users to completely customize their workflows to suit specific conditions.
PDF standards such as PDF/X-1a:2003, PDF/X-4:2008 and PDF/X-4p:2008 are fully supported by callas pdfToolbox. Using pdfToolbox you can accept PDF’s with live transparency, color manage, ink optimizing using TGLC’s device link profiles and standardize. Once color managed, users can choose to flatten transparencies and impose the jobs using the powerful production tools built into pdfToolbox. Users can even create layered PDF’s from flat documents and verify them as PDF/X-4. For packing workflows pdfToolbox can be used to select die lines to remove them from base layers and move them to separate layers.
pdfToolbox 4.5 introduces visual inspection capabilities by adding "Temperature" highlighting. This Viusalizer feature adds colored highlighting in different levels depending on the gravity of certain problems and is available for: Ink coverage, Image resolution and Small Objects. This way, problems can be detected automatically and solved by priority.
In order to verify color specifications and coverage, in pdfToolbox 4.5 users can look at individual channels or combinations of color channels (Full, CMY Only, K Only, Process Colors Only, Spot Colors Only). Total area coverage is displayed individually for all processes and spot color inks as well as for the total area coverage of all inks combined.
A comprehensive visual inspection report can be exported in both the Desktop and the Server version of pdfToolbox 4.5 - available as PDF or JPEG files for integration into web portals.
The bundles give users the greatest amount of flexibility for color management, PDF standardization and workflow automation available.
